Garnet June Hunt-White, 92, died Monday, February 25, at Southeast Healthcare in Doniphan. She was born in Briar, MO on June 15, 1920 to Oma Rowena (McKinney) Hunt and Garrett Hobart Hunt. Her parents did much ciphering, making up stories, and telling them. Garnet's First schoolteacher was her mother, Oma, at Pleasant Hill School in Pratt. Garnet was baptized on December 7, 1941, at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. She graduated from Doniphan High School in 1938 with a First Grade Teachers' Certificate and began teaching at Towles School, four miles from town. After attending Southeast Teachers College in Cape Girardeau, she taught third grade at Doniphan Elementary School from 1941-44 and art from 1950-54. She attended college in the summer terms and received her BS in Education in 1957 and her Master of Arts degree in 1963. Garnet also worked at her parent's Hunt Theatre in Doniphan where she bought and booked movies for the theatre. Garnet married Glenn E. White on January 15, 1956, at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. They moved to Dexter and later to Poplar Bluff where he was Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and then to Cape Girardeau where he was Law Judge to the Division of Workmen's Compensation and Garnet taught school in Cape Girardeau County. Glenn and Garnet retired to Hunts' farm north of Doniphan in 1988. Glenn, a lawyer and judge, preceeded her in death on June 25, 1994. Garnet had a love for writing. She was a member of the Doniphan Writer's Guild and wrote articles and stories for magazines and for the Internet. Her specialty in writing was about Hunt Theatre, her parents, her husband, pets, nature, and history. Garnet also had a great love for her pets and took care of them lovingly. Garnet was preceeded in death by her parents and her husband. Surviving are many cousins and friends, especially Mrs. Olive Rogers who has been Garnet's friend since they were five and four years old respectively. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm Thursday February 28 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral service will be Thursday February 28 at 1 PM at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan with Bro. Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be in Doniphan City Cemetery.
