Obituary of Doug Beevers

Please share a memory of Doug to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Pette Douglas Beevers, Jr., 79-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at St. Bernards Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas, AR.  Doug was born October 27, 1943, in Cleveland, MS, to the late Pette Douglas and Lucille (Watts) Beevers.

In his lifetime of serving and protecting his family and the community in which he lived, Doug worked as a deputy with Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi, a constable with Constable Beat Four in Bolivar County, MS, an officer with the West Plains Police Department in West Plains, MO, and as a juvenile officer. His training for these roles included classes at Quantico. Doug taught college law enforcement classes to prepare others to fill law enforcement positions. He impacted many lives over the years. He was also a gunsmith, owning Current River Firearms, and many people came to him with questions or needed repairs on their weapons. Doug’s favorite pastimes included woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He attended His Place Church where he was an active member and helped establish and advise the church’s security team. Doug’s outgoing personality and sense of humor endeared him to all who met him, and his jokes or humorous comments usually left them with a smile. His smile was warm, and his joy was contagious. Doug was kind, caring, and loved people.

On June 2, 1990, Doug married Judy Wiggs. She survives. Also surviving are his sons, William “Bill” Beevers of Shaw, MS, Kenneth “Kenny” (Robin) Beevers of Horn Lake, MS, and Aaron Martin of Jonesboro, AR; daughters, Stephanie (Kevin) Clevenger of Blue Springs, MO, Amberly Martin of Horse Shoe Bend, AR, and Shannon Harris of Batesville, MS; a sister Peggy Shearer of Austin, TX; “adopted by love” grandchildren, Gillian Fox and Jeremiah Fox of Columbia, MO, and Isaac (Stephanie) Ballow and Hannah (Brett) Tinsley, all of Poplar Bluff, MO; along with many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and family members too numerous to name.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lee Wiggs.
