Obituary of Opal Juanita Parks
Opal was a cosmetologist who was the epitome of beauty, grace, and class. She was witty with a vibrant personality and would captivate her friends and family with stories that they loved to listen to as much as she enjoyed telling them. She leaves behind a legacy of love, caring, and kindness. Opal liked to sew, quilt, and cook and was a member of the Red Hat Society. For many years, Opal attended Doniphan First Baptist Church.
On May 22, 1942, Opal married Oscar Parks in Corning, AR. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded by two daughters, Patsy Young and Vanessa Fell; a son, Danny Parks; stepdad, Willie Hommel; sisters, Shirley Parent and Betty Adams; a brother, Charles Hommel; and grandchildren, Jennifer Parks and Ginger Parks.
Surviving is her son, William E. “Butch” (Barbara) Parks of Rockford, Il, sons-in-law, Donald Young of Fairdealing, MO and Jeff Fell of Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Penny Parks; and sister, Joycie O’Bryan of Piggott, AR. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Donny (Jamie) Young of Doniphan, Jill (Brian) Wright of Harviell, MO, Stacy (Toby) Taylor of Oxly, MO, Josh (Jen) Parks of Goshen, KY, Nikki Saladino of Rockford, IL, Bill (Diane Baconguis) Parks of Boise, ID, Christina (John) Tassoni of Rockford, IL, and Amalia Quesada Parks of Chicago, I L; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023, also at Edwards Funeral Home, at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Dillon Harper, Brother Crutis Crowley, and Brother Scott Wilkerson. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Rector, AR.
