I only knew Opal for a few weeks after she moved in with Jill and her family, but I came to love her quickly, because she was a sweet and fascinating lady. Opal knew the Lord, so we shared many attitudes and interests. During our time together, I read a chapter of the Bible a day aloud to Opal, through 1st and 2nd Thessalonians and we had just begun 1st Timothy. We also read from "Reminisce' which promoted many wonderful stories from her life.
Opal loved her family and expressed concern, care and appreciation often. She said that the girls told their young visitors that going downstairs to see her was kind of like going on a field trip. Opal loved getting hugs from her relatives and received a lot of them. Opal shared that her granddaughter, Briley, had recently sat with her and talked about her future plans and Opal seemed very pleased about that.
Opal spent so many years being very capable and active that being unable to do things for herself was difficult for her. I rejoice on her behalf, knowing that the season of unwelcome inactivity and the reality of 'can't' is now over. She is enjoying the presence of Jesus and her beloved husband, Oscar, and she will soon be enjoying a new and boundless body and an endless future during which the word 'can't' will never be spoken or heard. I look forward to seeing her there.
