Reverend Charlie Cates Reverend Charlie Thomas Cates, 81, of Alton, Missouri, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at his residence. Reverend Cates, son of the late John Henry and Eliza Mae (Belcher) Cates, was born on July 2, 1927, in Old Burr, Missouri. A retired minister for twenty-eight years, he attended the United Pentecostal Church in Alton. Rev. Cates pastored at Fairdealing Apostolic Church and founded and pastored a church in Tarkio, Missouri. He had been a chaplain of a nursing home and enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting and repairing clocks. He was married to Auldeane Smith on January 6, 1951, in Charleston, Missouri. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Charlotte Richardson of Kennett, Missouri, Karen Chesser of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and Cindy Evans of Bonne Terre, Missouri; one sister, Ethel Kuykendall of Charleston, Missouri; one brother, Ervin Cates of Charleston, Missouri; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Reverend Cates was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl Cates and Jearl Cates. Visitation will be Saturday evening, April 25, 2009, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Missouri. The funeral service will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 26, 2009, at the funeral home chapel with Brother Charles Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnston Chapel Cemetery.
