Auldeane and family, I am so glad that Denzil and I were able to visit you and Charlie this past week before the Lord chose to take Charlie home with Him. Even until the very end Charlie kept us smiling up to his comment about NOT wanting Denzil to give him a haircut to wanting to know if we rode the motorcycyle on our visit (I also remember on one visit when he jumped on the back of that goldwing and said "lets go Denzil!") Charlie was just such a wonderful man of God and was always the happiest when he was talking about the goodness of God. I can truly say that Charlie Cates is "FINER THAN A FROGS HAIR SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE" right now!!! I love you Charlie and Auldeane very much. Your "sis", PAT

Auldeane, What a wonderful visit we had when we came to see Charlie for the last time. In spite of the sadness, there was a very sweet presence of the Lord. God told us He was about to show Charlie the greatest love he had ever known, and it was far greater than any earthly Father. I have been thinking about that all weekend. I know God is with Him, and He is holding him close. I guess we'll have to wait and see the rest for ourselves. We love you Deane. Call us. Love,'Nete

Uncle Charlie was a good man, one that I knew I could look up to and pattern my life and walk with God after. He was always kind, generous and never did I ever see or hear about a selfish act from my uncle. He was a completely selfless man and always giving of himself to others. I’ll always remember the Thanksgiving dinners that my family and I spent with Aunt Deane and Uncle Charlie (videos always revealed Uncle Charlie fighting to stay awake and eventually nodding off). So many stories I’ve heard and so many great memories I have of him. I never told him, but after the passing of my grandpa, Cecil Smith, I looked to Uncle Charlie as sort of my second granddad. He not only talked the talk, but he walked the walk and you could tell he loved God in every thing he did, from his laugh to his kindness, God’s love always surrounded him. I loved my uncle and I sincerely regret that I can’t be there to say goodbye to him person. Goodbye Uncle Charlie, I will miss you dearly. Your Nephew, Brian

Charlie was a great brother-in-law. He was always ready with a laugh and grin, and 'do you want some coffee' whenever you came to his house. His greatest ministries, (which were not even mentioned in the obit.) were on the campus of Tarkio College, where he witnessed to people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. There were baptisms in the college pool, and prayer held on the floor of the college dorms. Only time will will tell the impact Charlie had on the lives of the young people and the administration staff, he interacted with on campus there. There is not a huge UPC building erected in Tarkio, but without a doubt, Charlie fulfilled his calling and mission in that town. You are missed, Denzil Smith

Uncle Charlie was a dear uncle, and was a big part of my early life. He loved the outdoors, especially squirrel hunting. He took me on my very first squirrel hunt. He had a wonderful since of humor and a delightful smile that would warm a whole room. He loved my aunt Dean and his children, and he loved my saviour Jesus Christ. He has now passed away but I have not lost him. I know exactly where he is. Thank You Uncle Charley for the Memories, Your nephew, Joe Cates

I well remember when Charlie decided to give his heart and life to God. It was without any reservation and with a sense of total commitment. During his lifetime he ministered to all types of people, both at church and at the college where he worked in Tarkio. He extended his witness to ministers of other faiths and he developed lasting friendships, including making friends with many international students. He never tired of talking about the goodness of God. Not only was he a wonderful brother-in-law, he was a great friend to us for over 50 years. Only eternity will reveal how wide spread his ministry truly was. He leaves a great heritage to his family. We will miss him! Tom and Sue Jackson
