Obituary of Florence Featherston

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence Featherston Florence Featherston died on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Colonial Home, Doniphan, at age 96. Florence was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Edward E. (Gene) Featherston, her mother, Maude Wolfe, father Lewis Wolfe and brother, Leeman Wolfe. She is survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Jim Featherston of Rosebud, Mo., brother-in-law, Edwin Sutherland of Doniphan, sister-in-law, Ellen Featherston of Poplar Bluff, and sister-in-law, Lois Madsen of Binghamton, N.Y. and numerous nieces and nephews. She grew up and attended schools in St. Louis where she and Gene were married in 1942. She remained there during the war while Gene served in the navy. Because her husband's job required frequent transfers, they lived in many different cities. She regarded each move as an adventure and quickly found her way around the new city. Florence worked as an executive secretary and in her eighties she could record a conversation in shorthand. She also worked as a retail salesperson. She did beautiful needlework. In 1982 they retired and moved to Ripley County. In 2002 they moved to Poplar Bluff. After Gene's death Florence became a resident of the Colonial Home where she received loving and attentive care. Graveside services will be conducted at the Doniphan Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2009, by Rev. Bob Featherston.
