Thelbert Delbert Darrell Hanks, 79, of Grandin, Missouri, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Hanks, son of James Andrew Jackson and Birdie Mae (Garvin) Hanks, was born March 20, 1936, in Sedgewick, Arkansas. He had been a sawmiller in the timber industry. Mr. Hanks enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, raising chickens and making wooden furniture. He was an ordained minister of the General Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Conflict.
On February 19, 1955, he was married to Lorine Upchurch in St. Louis, Missouri, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Darrell (Susan) Hanks of Grandin; five daughters, Brenda Hanks of Crocker, Missouri, Debbie (Jeff) Welsh and Karen (Kevin) Pennington, both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Pamela Powers of Grandin and Kimberly (Dan) Richmond of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Virginia Simpson and Linda Hanks, both of Oregon; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons-in-law, Joe Powers and Leonard Drwenski, one sister, Shirley Angland and three brothers, Gordon Hanks, Leon Hanks and Larry Hanks.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel and burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery.
