Virgil Lee Smith, 72, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Southeast Health Center of Ripley County in Doniphan.
Mr. Smith, son of Henry and Mary (Gribble) Smith, was born November 30, 1942, in McGee, Missouri. He had been a logger in the sawmill industry. Mr. Smith loved to travel and enjoyed raising chickens. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and had served a tour of duty in Vietnam.
On February 23, 2003, he was married to Arlene Asilom Smith in the Philippines and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2013.
Surviving are 7 children: Christine Smith, John Smith, Virgil Smith, Jr., Rory Smith, Henry Smith, Hansel Smith and Herby Smith; two sisters, Ruby Siemer and Ruth Carver and one brother, Richard Smith.
Visitation will be Sunday March 22, 2015 from 5-8 pm at Edwards Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday March 23, at 10:30 am at Edwards Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Monday March 23 at 2 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
