Obituary of John Owings

John Mark Owings, Doniphan, Missouri, resident, was born September 23, 1979, in Mountain View, Missouri, to Bonnie (Kelly) Owings Duncan and the late Rev. Robert Lee Owings. He was an avid music lover and self-taught guitarist who brought love, kindness and comfort into the lives of all those around him. John always enjoyed the simple things, remaining young at heart and ready to share a smile or song with anyone who had the time. He began his eternal life on February 26, 2015, at the age of 35. Being soft-spoken and quick to forgive were qualities John learned from an early age, living with six sisters including Leanna (Steve) McDaniel of Mountain Grove, MO, Donna (Gary) Dornin of Doniphan, MO, Tracy Owings of Nixa, MO, Betty Wallace of Doniphan, MO, Kelly (Eric) Leroux of Doniphan, MO, and Jewelee Owings of Springfield, MO, and two brothers, Robert (Marcy) Owings of Oregon, and James (Anna) Owings of Neosho, MO. Other survivors include thirteen nephews and ten nieces, numerous great nephews and nieces, his girlfriend of six years, Kerri Ponder, and children he cared for: Richard Martin, Ann-Marie and Adrienn Casey, William and Andrew Fortney. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Robert Lee Owings. Funeral services will be held at one p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor Jared Baker officiating. Burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery, following the services. When John was mourning the loss of his father, he looked to the Bible for comfort. Now, his friends and family must also find comfort from the same scripture that brought him peace. Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death or sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
