Obituary of Tom Bridges

Tom J. Bridges, 76, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Tuesday evening, February 24, 2015, in rural Ripley County. Mr. Bridges, son of the late Chester and Vida (Day) Bridges, was born October 31, 1938, in Ponder, Missouri. He had spent his adult life teaching the students of Ripley County and retired with the Doniphan R-1 School District. Tom began his teaching career at Lone Star School and later transferred to Doniphan. He was the Junior High School Counselor for many years and later became the Junior High School Principal, maintaining that position until his retirement after 34 years of instruction. He was also a volunteer with the Doniphan Fire Department and served many years on the Doniphan City Council. Mr. Bridges was a loving husband, father and grandpa and his life-long desire was to give the students in the Doniphan community a quality education. He was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ. On August 21, 1964, he was married to Nancy Hoefer at the Doniphan Church of Christ and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Marcia Lynn (Darrin) Tackett of Doniphan and two granddaughters, Stephanie (Kody) Berrong and Allison Tackett. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Doniphan Church of Christ, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Paragould Children's Home.
