Miss Orvada not only taught her students to appreciate and love music, but she nurtured us along the way! She always had a smile and kind words that soothed our young souls. Our beloved teacher touched so many lives and she loved us unconditionally. She will always hold a special place in my heart. I am sure she is leading the Angels in harmony! Prayers to the family for comfort in the coming days.

To Orvada's family. Please accept my kindest condolences to your loss of Orvada. She was my teacher in school for many years. I can clearly remember to this day, her stopping me on the stairs of my Dad's hardware store, in 1959, and asking me if I wanted to play the lead role in the 1960 Operetta, Rip Van Winkle. It scared me to death, but I accepted and is one of my most memorable events in grade school. She was a wonderful person and human being. A side note. Her mother Ada Dickerson cooked so well. Over my grandmother, Nannie Garrisons surprise, who was a great cook in her own right, I preferred Ada's angelfood cakes over my GrandmotheSr's for my birthday. I don't think my grandmother ever got over it. But this is a memory I think about when I drive by Ada's house which is just one block from my grandmother's. My sympathies to your loss. Sincerely Mike Smock and family

Dearest Miss Orvada was a wonderful English teacher, encouraging students to write extra papers, even though it meant more work for her. But it was her music that touched me most. Miss Orvada's Glee Club class was a high school highlight. It still is in my memories of high school. I am certain many others feel the same. Later in life, when we seemed more like contemporaries, she laughed when I still continued to call her "Miss" Orvada. It brought back those wonderful memories of over 50 years ago to us both. She was the best. Jerry, Class of '59

Mrs. Capps was my & my siblings music teacher while we lived in Doniphan (1973-76). She shared her love of music with us & taught us to recognize that each of us was special - in our own way. I loved her class & valued her. She always lit up when she saw us and took the time to talk. I'll always remember her appreciation when my mom would take us over to Mrs. Capps' home to drop off warm yeast bread at Christmas time & the thank you card that followed. I still have those cards. Blessings to the family & thanks for all the musical memories.
