Obituary of Goldie Smith

Goldie Smith, 99, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan.
Mr. Smith was born December 12, 1908, in Oregon County, Missouri. He was a former mail carrier and had owned and operated a furniture store. He also was a farmer. Mr. Smith was a member of the Doniphan Church of God and enjoyed softball, gardening, yard work, and roasting peanuts.
On April 25, 1931, he was married to Verdie L. Upton. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2002.
Mr. Smith is survived by one daughter, Alma Burrow, of Florissant, Missouri, and two grandchildren, Gene Smith, Jr., and Gina Ranae Burrow, both of St. Louis.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Travis and Mary Jane (Storms) Smith; one son, Delvie Gene Smith, Sr.; four sisters, Elsie Clark, Modena Carson, Opal Crawford and Ada Tyson; and four brothers, Walter Smith, Estel Smith, Elgon Smith and O.J. Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2008, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will begin Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
