Obituary of Allen Smithson

Allen Rodgers Smithson, 75, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014, at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, Florida. Mr. Smithson, son of Lewis Perry and Luranna (Murdock) Smithson, was born June 17, 1939, in Gatewood, Missouri. He had retired after 27 years as an insurance agent for Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance. Mr. Smithson loved all Doniphan High School sporting events and assisted with the DHS girls' basketball program during the late 1980's and early 1990's. During his tenure as an assistant coach, the girls won several district titles and a special highlight was winning fourth place in state tournament play during the 1988-89 season. He enjoyed golfing with his family, especially participating in golf tournaments with Darlene, Doug and Kody. A special honor for Allen was 3 holes-in-one, winning a car on one of the holes at the Current River Country Club. He also enjoyed fishing with Keshia in Current River and hunting with his brother, Bill, and son, Doug. Mr. Smithson additionally served as a city firefighter and reserve police officer. On February 7, 1959, he was married to Darlene Hall in St. Louis, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, April and Doug Green and one son, Doug Smithson, both of Doniphan; one sister, Pat Elder of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Bill Smithson of Plato, Missouri; two grandchildren, Keshia Berrong and Kody and Stephanie Berrong; and three grandpuppies, Britnee, Lucy and Oliver. Mr. Smithson was precededed in death by his parents, two sisters, Irene Brooks and Lorene Rieck and two brothers, Charles Smithson and Paul Smithson. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel with Brother John Harwell officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Doniphan High School Golf Team.
