Obituary of Verna Holland

Verna Elberta Holland, 90, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mrs. Holland was born July 25, 1918, in Oxly, Missouri. She was a retired sales clerk in the retail business. Mrs. Holland was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ and the Ponder Booster club and she enjoyed quilting, gardening and tending to plants and flowers. On March 30, 1940, she was married to Virgil John Holland at Doniphan. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1997. Mrs. Holland is survived by one daughter, Juanita Caldwell, of Doniphan; one son, Howard Holland of Cedar Hill, Missouri; two grandchildren, Judy Hinton of Paragould, Arkansas, and Matthew Holland of Springfield, Missouri; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Hinton of Paragould; three sisters, Irene Davis of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sylvia Albanesi of Stafford, Virginia, and Bashie Williams of Poynor, Missouri; four brothers, Lawerence Kane of Yoncalla, Oregon, Kenneth Kane of Poynor and Paul Kane and Linden Kane, both of Doniphan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lora Mae (Hayes) Kane, and four brothers, Willard Kane, Willis Kane, Warren Kane and Robert Kane. Visitation will be Friday evening, October 10, 2008, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, October 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home.
