Albert Joseph Sturtz, 79, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Sturtz was born July 29, 1929, in Ripley County, Missouri. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 41 years of employment. Mr. Sturtz was a car collector especially 1950s vintage and was a member of the Mercury Car Club. He was a loyal Democrat and New York Yankees baseball fan. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Doniphan American Legion and V.F.W. Post #3485. On October 1, 1998, he was married to Margaret A. Sabolski at Doniphan. She survives. Also surviving are three step-children: Teresa "Terry" Hund and her husband, John and Vickie Stallbaumer and her husband, John, all of Topeka, Kansas, and James "Jimmie" O'Dell of Derby, Vermont; three sisters: Dorothy Nicholson and Sandra "Sandy" Sturtz, both of St. Louis, Missouri, and Annabelle Smelser of Maryland Heights, Missouri; one brother, Edward Sturtz of Westphalia, Missouri; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews and four step-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Matthew "Matt" Brasser of Oxly, Missouri. Mr. Sturtz was preceded in death by his parents, Albert F. and Mary Suchko Sturtz, and one sister, Mary Ann Doca. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 9, 2008, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, September 10, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kassulke officiating, assisted by Pastor Boettcher. Burial will follow in the Beaver Dam Cemetery.
