Robert Lee Holland was born Feb. 14, 1914, to John and Mary (Wright) Holland in Gatewood, Mo. He was the third of 13 children and the first son. He quit school at an early age to work on the farm. Robert marred Marie Pulliam in 1936 and was blessed with 52 happy years together. They became proud parents of two children, Carl and Faye. "What people say behind your back is your standing in the community in which you live." Robert was known throughout the county as hardworking, honest and dependable. He never learned the simple word "no." He was always ready with a helping hand and any kind of machinery he had in his barn. He did incredible things with his life in the face of a lot of hardship. He was a good provider and a loyal friend and had an extremely full and rich life. His world revolved around his family, community and church. He was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ . Survivors include children, Carl and (Janis) Holland of Sutherlin, Ore., Faye Goerling of Park Ridge, Ill.; grandchildren, Randy and (Allison) Holland of Safety Harbor, Fla., Karla and (Gordon) Dage of Sutherlin, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Dage of Sutherlin, Ore.; siblings, Ralph Holland of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Marshall Holland of Bellevue, Ill.; Jim Holland of Perkin, Ill., Peggy Gann of Washington, Ill., John Holland of Pekin, Ill., Ethel Goldring of Sullivan, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors .
