Woodard "Woody' Heath, 90, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Heath was born September 1, 1917, in Dudley, Georgia. He retired from the U. S. military as a buildings, roads, grounds, utilities inspector and later began employment for the California State Police in special security for research and development. Mr. Heath was a master sergeant in the Air Force for 21 years and a World War II veteran, having served in the Philippines. He was a member of the Current River Baptist Church and was a Mason, 32nd degree. On June 26, 1943, he was married to Alice Ruth Gryder in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2002. Surviving are three sons; Woodard Heath, Jr. of Doniphan, Tom Heath of Plano, Texas, and Roger Heath of Chatsworth, California; one daughter, Sandra Graffi of Doniphan; three sisters; Tommie Buck of Florida, Veomi of South Carolina, and Margaret of Georgia; five grandchildren; Meghan Ruth Heath, Jason Graffi, Taryn Heath, Mike Walter and Gina Poma; and two great-grandchildren, Brenden Poma and Annabelle Walter. Also preceding Mr. Heath in death were his parents, Thomas Henry and Fannaie Shiver Heath, two sisters, Irene and Josie and four brothers, J. D., Clyde, Grover and Jack Heath. Visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2008, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brother Wes Flaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery.
