James "Melvin" Main, 90, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Main was born August 7, 1917 at Fremont, Missouri. He was retired from a printing factory. Mr. Main was a U. S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3485 and the General Assembly of Church of First Born. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and brethren from church. On December 15, 1947, he was married to Juanita Richmond at Piggott, Arkansas. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Jim Gilliland and wife, Mary, of Doniphan; two daughters, Sharon Sloate and husband, Dewayne Sloate, of Naylor, Missouri, and Brenda Summers and husband, Terry, of Cedar Hill, Missouri; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Schneider, one son-in-law, Sonny Schneider, one sister, Lorene Brook, one brother, Richard Main, and his parents, Joe and Sylvia Main. Visitation will be Friday evening, July 11, 2008, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will be Saturday morning, July 12, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brothers Paul Williams and Rodger Bunch officiating. Burial will be in the Stephans Cemetery.
