Lewis Bissette, 78, of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life on Monday evening, March 3, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Bissette, son of Harvey and Nettie (Joyner) Bissette, was born August 26, 1935, in Bailey, North Carolina. He was retired military and had served with the U. S. Army for 20 years. Mr. Bissette loved cooking and was known far and wide for his delicious barbecue. He also served as the official scorekeeper for the Three Rivers Raiders mens and womens basketball teams for 27 years. Mr. Bissette was a member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church and the V.F.W. Post #3485. On August 9, 1958, he was married to Neva Bennett at the Doniphan First Baptist Church and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Denise Young of Koshkonong, Missouri; two sons, Butch Bissette of Doniphan and Joe (and Vicky) Bissette of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one sister, Inez (and Daylon) Underwood of Clayton, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Sherry Bissette of Bailey, North Carolina; four brothers, Mitch (and Lorraine) Bissette, Jay (and Joyce) Bissette, Brooks (and Bonnie) Bissette and Harvey Bissette, Jr., all of Bailey, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Shelby, Danielle, Joshua, Meaghan, Johnna, Bailey, Sydney, Dustin and Ryan; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, G. L. Bissette, one sister, Willistine Flowers, and two infant sisters. Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 7, 2014, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow Saturday morning, March 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Joe Bissette and Ryan Bissette officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will take place Monday morning, March 10, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
