Obituary of Opal Sipes

Opal DeEtta Sipes, 90-year-old resident of Doniphan, died Friday, April 27, 2007 at her residence. Mrs. Sipes was born April 15, 1917 in Doniphan to the late Will and Betty Jaco Foy, and had been a lifelong resident. Mrs. Sipes worked as a nurse and was a housewife; she was of the Baptist faith and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church; she enjoyed cooking, music, animals, and nature, and was also a self-taught musician. On April 2, 1935, at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan she was married to Huson "Bud" Sipes. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1991. Also preceding her in death were 3 children, Beverly Kathleen Hoefer, Karen Sue Price, and an unborn child; four sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 daughters, Billie Choita Sipes of Glady, W.V.; Jinkie Meeks of Doniphan; 1 son, Michael Huson Sipes of Doniphan; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Sipes will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, with Bro. Ben Jordan officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon on Monday. Burial will be at the Towles Cemetery.
