Leola Ruth (Shannon) Sleeper, 94, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013. Mrs. Sleeper was born to Edward P. Shannon and Maria (Gohlmann) Shannon on October 30, 1918, in Clinton, Iowa. Leola married Donald W. Sleeper on April 27, 1935, in Delmar, Iowa. Together they raised two sons, Donald and Gary. Throughout their marriage, the couple resided in Iowa, Minnesota and Arkansas. They enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with their family. After her husband's death in 1989, Leola resided in Arkansas, Georgia and Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Sleeper, sons, Donald Sleeper and Gary Sleeper, daughter-in-law Bonnie Sleeper; parents, Edward and Maria Shannon; brother, Donald Shannon; sister, Geraldine Bradulski. She is survived by one sister, Madonna Wing Worthington of Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Brenda Sleeper, grandchildren, Debbie Sleeper, Shari Larson, Michele Norman, Denisa Sleeper, Diana Norman, Daniel Sleeper, Kristina Larson, Kimberly Sams, Mary Anna Bachman, Renee Forbes and Joedy Duncan; step-grandchildren, Cynthia Reddin, Julie Reddin and Stacey Helsel; 36 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sleeper was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan, Missouri, and the St. Benedict PCCW. Funeral services will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan on Friday, August 23, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Burial services will be in Cumming, Georgia.
