Vergie Maybelle Peterson, 100, of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Fountain View Manor in Granite City.
Mrs. Peterson, daughter of Chet and Martha (Odom) Emmons, was born September 21, 1912, in Ripley County, Missouri. She had been a beautician. Mrs. Peterson loved to crochet and cook and was well-known for her pie crust. She also enjoyed gardening, both with vegetables and flowers, singing and spending time with her family.
On March 1, 1958, she was married to Ralph Peterson and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Roberta Crook and Kay (and Ron) Scarborough, both of Granite City; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one step-daughter, Mary Allen, 4 brothers and one sister.
Visitation will start Thursday morning, July 18, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Lynn Ham officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
