Joseph William Hanser, 86, of Gatewood, Missouri, died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Hanser, son of Joe and Anna (Fromholtz) Hanser, was born March 15, 1924, in Johnson County, Kansas. He was a dairy farmer. Mr. Hanser served on the Road Commission for the Ponder, Missouri, and Gatewood, Missouri, area and was an R-3 School Board Member. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed being with his family. On November 19, 1949, he was married to Shirley Lorance at St. Thomas Church in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives. Also surviving are three children; Charlie Hanser and wife, Robin, and Anna Harris and husband, Keith, both of Gatewood, Missouri; and Rose Henry and husband, Chuck, of Soldotna, Alaska; two sisters, Lillian Heiling of Shawnee, Kansas, and Barbara Ann Kriedemacher of Merriam, Kansas; one brother, Bernard Hanser of Merriam, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Betty Spell and Mary Hanser, and two sisters, Joann LaRose and Bernice Hanser. Visitation for Mr. Hanser will be Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Ponder Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ponder Community Building.
