Patricia Ruth Emmons Wiley, 84, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Wiley was born February 20, 1924, in Ripley County to the late George W. and the late Stella Ruth Marlin Emmons. She completed her teacher's training at Doniphan High School in 1941 and taught at Burnam School before attending Southeast Missouri State University. She and her fiancé Bertis Fearing Wiley left school when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to join the WWII effort. The couple married October 9, 1943. They raised five children, enjoyed visiting family, and shared a passion for animals. Many years were spent farming and gardening. Fearing preceded her in death on September 18, 1982. Mrs. Wiley was a member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Pat will always be remembered for her love for learning, fascination of the English language, witty humor, and strong religious convictions. She made fine needlecrafts, read voraciously, and was a wonderful cook. She is especially remembered for her cinnamon rolls and apple butter. Mrs. Wiley is survived by two sons, Bertis P. Wiley and his wife Carol of Wentzville and David L. Wiley and his wife Marsha Ann of Fairfax, South Carolina; three daughters, Priscilla W. Bass and her husband Steve of Doniphan, Pamela W. Schaefer and her husband Michael of St. Peters, and Kimberly W. Trabue and her husband Thomas of Columbia; one sister, Virginia McCluer of O'Fallon; one sister-in-law, Ermadean Emmons of Sikeston; seven grandchildren, Glenn Wiley and his family of St. Charles, Cynthia Wiley of Des Moines, Iowa, Marcia Zoellner and her family of O'Fallon, Katie Plumb and her family of Doniphan, Todd Trabue of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Kathryn Trabue of Columbia, and Jonathan Wiley of Fairfax, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother George Wray Emmons; two sisters, Eileen Lineberry and Kathryn Pepmiller; and one great-granddaughter, Georgia Grace Plumb. Visitation will be Sunday, March 16, 2008, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Denver Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
