John W. Emmons, Jr., 84-year-old resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday, March 8, 2007, at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Mr. Emmons was born November 3, 1923, in Neelyville, Missouri, to the late John W. Emmons and Gertrude (Landsel) Emmons. He was a heavy equipment operator having run many dozers. Mr. Emmons served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 3485 and a member of the Bellview Baptist Church.
On September 21, 1946, he was married to Doris Davis in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Debbie (Jerry) Cole; one son, Dennis Emmons (Phyllis Egland) all of Doniphan.; two grandchildren, Dennis Emmons Jr,. and Brad Emmons; three sisters, Virginia Wertenberger of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Wanda Lyerla of Granite City, Illinois, and Betty Brooks of St. John, Missouri; three brothers, Wayne Emmons of Festus, Missouri, Mac Emmons of Poplar Bluff and Bill Emmons of Fairdealing, Missouri.
Mr. Emmons was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerald Emmons.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan with funeral services Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. with Bro. Lynn Hamm officiating. Burial will be in Bellview Cemetery.
