Margaret May McCullough Baker, 88, was born May 9, 1919, in Leige, Missouri, and died March 2, 2008, in Doniphan, Missouri, while attending church services there. She was the daughter of John T. McCullough and Mina Grigg Haley.

Margaret Baker moved to Colorado with her family while still an infant, but returned to Bellflower where she attended grade school. When in the sixth grade, her family moved to Montgomery City; she lived the next 75 years of her life there. She graduated from Montgomery City High School and briefly attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. She was united in marriage to George Dougald "Doug" Baker on April 27, 1940, in Macon, Missouri.

As a young woman, she was baptized in the First Christian Church of Montgomery City but joined the First Baptist Church upon her marriage. She was a very active member there for sixty-three years, until moving her membership to the First Christian Church in Doniphan where her daughter is accompanist.

Mrs. Baker was Community Leader of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club for many years as well as being clothing project leader in that community. She worked as bookkeeper at Dowling Chevrolet for several years. She then worked at the Montgomery County Courthouse and Koehler Tax Service before opening her own H & R Block franchise in Montgomery City. She served as Public Administrator for Montgomery County for two terms and served several years as a Montgomery County Republican Committee Woman.

After the death of her husband in November, 2006, Mrs. Baker spent the winter in Piedmont, Missouri, with her daughter. She returned to Montgomery City in the spring of 2007, but was residing in Piedmont at the time of her death.

Mrs. Baker is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Jean Weier and husband, Wayne, of Piedmont; one son, John Edward Baker and wife, Patty, of Montgomery City; four grandchildren, Nancy Muskopf and husband, Walter, of Columbia, Missouri, Wendy Flemming and husband, Michael, of Kirkwood, Missouri, Daren Weier and wife, Cara, of Carlton, Minnesota, and Karl Baker and wife, Tammy, of Montgomery City; thirteen great-grandchildren, John Paul Baker, Zachary Baker, Sarah Baker, Isaiah Baker, Annie Weier, Leah Weier, Elise Weier, Jonah Weier, Sydney Muskopf, Sophia Muskopf, Troy Muskopf, Grace Flemming and James Flemming; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Doug, one grandson, David Wayne Weier, and two sisters, Mildred Baur and Mary Jane Wehrman.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Doniphan First Christian Church in Doniphan with Reverend John Harwell officiating.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City. The Reverend Jim Guffie and the Reverend John Harwell will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Schlanker Funeral Home. Mrs. Baker's ashes will be interred in the Montgomery City Cemetery.
