Harry L. Lovins, Sr., long-time resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday morning, February 28, 2013, at his residence in rural Ripley County. Mr. Lovins was born May 4, 1943, in Winona, Missouri, to Clarence and Alma (Blunkall) Lovins. He initially worked three years for the Van Buren Highway Department. Harry then began employment with the Natural Resource Conservation Service as a civil engineering technician and retired after 30 years of employment. Mr. Lovins was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Doniphan where he was active in Vacation Bible School, Sonshiners and the Harvest Festival. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and a proud supporter of the Doniphan Dons and Donettes. Harry also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. On July 2, 1964, he was married to Jewel Bland in Eminence, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are four children; Harry Lovins, Jr., Roy (and Tracy) Lovins, Jeremiah (and Melissa) Lovins and Abigail (and Perry) Walk, all of Doniphan; six grandchildren; Emily, Paris, Bobby, Maria, Tammy and Jessica; two step-grandchildren; Amanda and Courtney Walk, both of Greenville, Missouri; one brother, Kenneth Lovins of Winona, Missouri; one sister, Esta Mae (and Connie) Asher of Peoria, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, friends, church family and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister-in-law, Evelyn, one daughter-in-law, Sherrie, one granddaughter, Autumn, and one grandson, Skyler. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 5 -8 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will start on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home chapel with Brother Randy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunt-White Cemetery.
