Dennis R. Ponder, 68-year-old resident of Sikeston, Missouri, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Ponder was born October 21, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri, and had previously lived in Kansas City, Missouri, and Muncie, Kansas. He had worked for 22 years as a credit manager and 17 years in the cable business. He was a member of the Stoney Point Christian Church, in Muncie and received an honorable discharge from the US Marine Corps Reserve. Mr. Ponder enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture.
On March 2, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was married to Terry Anne Duker of Sikeston, Missouri, who survives.
Also surviving are his mother Ruth Ponder Lyday of Doniphan, one son, David Wayne Ponder of Kansas City; two daughters, Denise Anne Green of Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Ruth Anne Ponder of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Susan Hill of Joplin, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Ponder of Beverly Hills, Florida, and David Ponder of Overland Park, Kansas; and five grandchildren, Richard, Chris, Shawn, Michael, and Elizabeth.
Preceding Mr. Ponder in death were his father, Carl Proctor Ponder, and step-father, Richard Lyday; one sister, Faye Ponder and one brother, Robert Ponder.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan. Burial was in Amity Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home of Doniphan was in charge of arrangements.
