Roberta J. "Janie" Lee, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, formerly of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. Lee, daughter of Clifford "Doc" and Vivian (McCord) Goforth, was born February 11, 1929, in St. Peter, Minnesota. She was a retired schoolteacher and had taught in the Doniphan R-1 School District for 35 years. Mrs. Lee was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, PEO Club, Lectus Club, Jr. Fiction Club and the Wesleyan Guild. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Lee was a member of the United Methodist Church, having served as Sunday School Superintendent, and she also enjoyed singing in the choir. On August 23, 1952, she was married to Charles Lee at Pocahontas, Arkansas, and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Chuck (and Amy) Lee and Rob Lee, both of Poplar Bluff, and one daughter, Linda Lee (and Larry Forrest) of Rocheport, Missouri; one sister, Barbara Belew of Doniphan; two grandchildren, Christopher (and Amber) Lee of Camp Zama Army Base in Japan and Charles (and Kathleen) Ezell of Columbia, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Lee and Charlie Ezell. Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Clifford and Vivian Goforth. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday, November 19, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Kent Wilfong officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Ripley County Library.
