Obituary of Frank Marek

Frank Joseph Marek, 88, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died January 7, 2008, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas.
Mr. Marek, son of the late David and Emma Sucharda Marek, was born in Doniphan, Missouri, on October 16, 1919. He had been an administrator with the Coles-Moultrie Electric Co-operative in Mattoon, Illinois, and had a keen interest in history, geology and genealogy. Mr. Marek spent the greater part of his life in Mattoon where he was active in civic affairs and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and was an especially active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Marek served with the 88th infantry division of the National Guard during World War II and was in combat in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze star for his leadership and valor.
Surviving are two nephews, Don (and Gail) Marek of Little Rock, Arkansas, and David (and Amy) Marek of Collierville, Tennessee; one niece, Patricia Morgan of Bryant, Arkansas; three great-nieces, Karen (and Lance) Gunn of Bryant, Arkansas, Megan McDaniel of Nashville, Tennessee, and Brenna McDaniel of Murpheysville, Tennessee; and one great-nephew, Kevin and (Teresa) Morgan of Bryant, Arkansas.
Mr. Marek was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, James Marek and Louise Marek and Eugene Duane Marek and Dorothea Marek, and one great-nephew, David Rhinehart Marek.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, 2008, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
