Rueben Arnold Engel, 85, of Maynard, Arkansas, formerly of Denhoff, North Dakota, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Engel was born September 30, 1922, at Denhoff. A farmer and self-employed painter, he enjoyed gardening, embroidering and cross-stitching quilts and quilt blocks to sell. He was a former president of the Nora Springs, Iowa, Kiwanis Club and was a co-founder of Helping Hands Community Center in Doniphan, Missouri. Mr. Engel had been a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for over 62 years. On November 14, 1945, he was married to Frances Arlene Suelzle in Denhoff. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Norine (Duane) Westerbeck of Maynard, and Darnell (Gary) Patrick of Mason City, Iowa; two sons, Cleon (Janis) Engel and Carlyle Engel (and friend, Rhonda), all of Nora Springs, Iowa; one sister, Alice Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; one brother Ervin Engel of Minot, North Dakota; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Engel was preceded in death by his parents, Emmanuel Engel and Dorothy Edinger Engel, and one brother, Walter Engel. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2007, from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brother Glen Marshall and Brother Marvin Creelman officiating.
