Ralph Leon Matthews, 78, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Mr. Matthews, son of George and Minnie (Alexander) Matthews, was born August 31, 1934, in Grays Ridge, Missouri. He had been self-employed in construction. Mr. Matthews enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, camping, traveling, raising cattle and being with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church and had served in the U. S. Navy.
On June 27, 1956, he was married to Dorlis Jean Cornman in Hernando, Mississippi. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons; Ronnie (Denise) Matthews and Michael (Gail) Matthews, both of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Pete (Brigitte) Matthews, Jr. of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one daughter, Tracy Matthews (David Swigert) of Grandin, Missouri; grandsons, Ryan (Beth) Matthews, Michael Matthews, Jr., Christopher Matthews, Steven Orick, Timmy Swigert and Jackson Altom; granddaughters, Megan (Casey)Albl, Emilee (John) Fensterman, Amanda Matthews, Monica Matthews, Jessica Matthews (Brandon Ingram) and Sarah Orick; great-grandchildren,Vivian, Sam, Landson, Noah, Conner, Parker, Nevaeh, Addison, Hailey, Michael and Preston; one great-granddaughter, Heavenlie; one nephew, Wayne (Joelyn) Matthews of St. Charles, Missouri; one niece, Debbie Matthews of Jackson, Mississippi; one great-nephew, Casey (Lindsey) Matthews; one grand-niece, Amber Matthews, and one great-grand niece, Kaley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Matthews, two sisters, Wilma (Clarence) Spicklemeyer and Myrtle (Kermit) Smith, and one brother, George (Ellen) Matthews, Jr.
Visitation will be Saturday evening, September 29, 2012, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2012, at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Phelps officiating.
There will be no graveside service. Live plants may be accepted or memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans.
