Billy Joe Smith, 70, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Monday, December 3, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Smith, son of the late Walter Smith and Pearl Fagan Smith, was born October 25, 1937, in Oregon County, Missouri. He was retired as Superintendent of Schools at Alton, Missouri, and had worked in real estate. Mr. Smith was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He enjoyed trout fishing and traveling in New Mexico.
On September 1, 1967, he was married to Margie "Lois" Skaggs at Doniphan. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Hawkins and Gale Hawkins, both of Summersville, Missouri; two sisters, Vivian Yarber of Doniphan and Jane Bollenbacher of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one brother, Norman Smith of Doniphan; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Max.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2007, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Danny Shockley officiating.
