William Robert "Bill" Elkins William Robert "Bill" Elkins, 93, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. Elkins was born January 14, 1914, in Ripley County, Missouri. He was retired from the U. S. Post Office. He enjoyed his cattle and was recognized for a "Century Farm" by the Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and a charter member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Elkins served in World War II with the U. S. Navy. On July 7, 1942, he was married to Opal Merriman at Jonesboro, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2001. Survivors include two nephews, Robert Elkins of Doniphan and Andrew Elkins of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; three nieces, Melanie Mobley of Doniphan, Ruth Calloway of Grady, Arkansas and Sondra Dampier of West Monroe, Louisiana; one brother, Blake Elkins of Pine Bluff; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Elkins and Pearl Blake Elkins. Visitation will be Thursday, October 4, 2007, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Friday, October 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Bob Featherston and Brother Robert Norvell officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ripley County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
