Eva Lea Schlief, 86, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Friday morning, April 20, 2012, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Schlief, daughter of Otto and Matilda (Rennicke) Ruegger, was born September 12, 1925, in Waldenburg, Arkansas. She was retired from public school teaching. Mrs. Schlief enjoyed playing cards, reading, doing word searches, Wheel of Fortune, Lawrence Welk and playing piano. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Doniphan where she had been the church organist for over 20 years and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Schlief was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. On June 20, 1948, she was married to Irven Schlief in Waldenburg, Arkansas. He survives. Also surviving are three sons; Ron (and Laurel) Schlief of Perryville, Missouri, and Dan Schlief and Lowell (and Norita) Schlief, both of Doniphan; three daughters; Carol (and Phil) Davis and Janet (and Kevin) Payne, both of Doniphan and Linda (and Vol) Holland of Edgar Springs, Missouri; one sister, Alma (and Alfred C.) Wolf of Waldenburg, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schlief was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Matilda Ruegger, one sister, Lillian Downs and two brothers, Lester Ruegger and Otto Ruegger. Visitation will be Saturday April 21, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Edwards Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday 2 pm April 21, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Doniphan with Reverend Timothy Matthew officiating. Burial will be in Doniphan City Cemetery.
