Bill Capps of Doniphan, MO died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Bill, the son of Alphus and Iva(Callahan) Capps was born in Bolivar, MO, August 17, 1928. Bill moved to Doniphan when his father accepted the job as minister at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. In 1948-1950 he taught the 5th and 6th grades in the Elementary School in Van Buren, MO. On February 22, 1953 he was married to Orvada Dickerson at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. This year they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. She survives. Also surviving are 5 nieces, 3 nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Suzie, and his sister Ethel Headrick. After his marriage, Bill worked as the furniture store manager for Smith Home Furnishings in Doniphan. He was also a cattle rancher and hay farmer for many years. Bill enjoyed his horses, his many dogs, with "Troubles", being his last companion. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Bank of Grandin since the 1960's. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Doniphan. He served in the US Army during the Korean War as a SFC, E-6, Special Weapons Instructor, stationed in Germany. Two of his special interests were hunting and fishing. He made 27 consecutive trips to Colorado with numerous Ripley County friends and family and boxes of his mother-in-law's fried pies. He was successful in shooting a 1000 lb elk on one of those trips. He especially enjoyed fishing and camping at the Norfork Lake in Arkansas with his camping buddies. (The catfish were pretty enjoyable too.) Visitation for Mr. Capps will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 5-8 PM at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will start at 10 AM Monday, April 16, 2012 in the Edwards Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Pepmiller officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
