Melissa McGhee Harper, 28 of Norton, Kansas, died Thursday March 22, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Mrs. Harper was born July 22, 1983 in Pensacola, FL to Tammie (Burton) McGhee and Fred Wilson McGhee. She attended local schools and was a member of the Doniphan Senior High Class of 2001. She received her diploma in Norton, Kansas in 2011. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She worked at Ripley County Memorial Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department prior to moving to Norton, Kansas in 2010, where she was employed by ARAMARK at the Norton Correctional Facility. Mrs. Harper loved her family and friends and enjoyed an active outdoor life, which included fishing and deer hunting. She was a dedicated volunteer for the local blood drives; relay for life; and breast cancer awareness. She married James Edward Harper, September 27, 2008 at a beautiful ceremony on the Current River. He survives of the home. Surviving also are her mother Tammie (Burton) Weaver and her stepfather Vernon Weaver, III of Doniphan and Norton, Kansas; Her father, Fred Wilson McGhee and step-mother Tammy McGhee of Pensacola, Florida; half-sister Chelsea McGhee of Pensacola, Florida; step-brother Blake Wilcoxson of E. Peoria, Illinois; grandparents Billie and Carolyn Burton of Doniphan; Vernon Weaver, II of Pocahontas, Arkansas; Judith and Floyd Rush of Corning, Arkansas; the late Fred McGhee of Pensacola, Florida; Priscilla and Jerry Heckman of Pensacola, Florida; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins all of the surrounding area. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 followed by the funeral at 12:00 P.M. at the Edwards Funeral Home of Doniphan. Reverend Marvin Richards will officiate. The family suggests memorials be sent to a Trust fund that has been set up at The Bank of NW Kansas, 314 W. Holme, Norton, Kansas 67654, (785)877-5109.
