Obituary of Georgia Lou Chailland
Georgia Lou (McClain) Chailland was born January 14, 1930, at home in Hornersville, MO, to the late John Franklin and Jewell Arty (Dodd) McClain, and she passed on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Georgia had a long and varied career in several industries. She enjoyed the years she spent working at Emerson Electric, Vitronic, Jamison Foodliner, and Gates Rubber Company. Georgia had lived in California and Michigan before moving back to the farm in southeast Missouri. She had also lived in Arkansas. While living in Neelyville, MO, she owned and operated the Bel-Air Motel. Moving to Doniphan in 1991, she was a machine operator at Vitronic for 30 years and had also worked at Gates for six years. In addition to all of these duties, Georgia and her husband, Seeward, also farmed. She was a “World Traveler” who especially enjoyed cruises.
On May 24, 1947, Georgia married Seeward Rance Chailland in Piggott, AR. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2006. She was also preceded by two of her children, Melvin Rance Chailland and Rosemary Bryer, and a brother who passed away as a baby, Billy McClain.
Surviving is her daughter, Regina (Francis) Wheeler of Doniphan; a sister, Darcus Mangrum of Michigan; grandchildren, Ty and Susan Chailland of Doniphan, Luke and Melody Chailland of Poplar Bluff, MO, Julie and Sam Boothe of Doniphan, Elizabeth and Louis Norwood of Jonesboro, AR, Paul Wayne Corley of Doniphan, and Eva Rose Corley of San Diego. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Maddox Wheeler of Poplar Bluff, Aspen Wheeler of Doniphan, Xander Norwood and Gunner Norwood, both of Jonesboro, Jordan Chailland, and Erica Chailland of Dothan, AL; and great-great-grandchildren, Jolleen Edwards, Jared Thomas Edwards, Myka Naron, and Michael Naron, Jr., Kassie Chailland, Ellie Chailland, and Makenzie Chailland; along with Barbara Richmond and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 23, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. Brother Larry Bashaw and Brother Elijah Allen will be officiating, and burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, MO.
