Larry E. Portwood, 69-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born July 21, 1954, in Hayti, MO, to the late Castle Eugene and DaWanda Jean (Wyatt) Portwood.

 

Larry lived a life of service to others. He had served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He had also served in the ministry sharing the gospel and helping others. Larry was dedicated and a hard worker, taking care of his family, farming, and caring for the animals.

 

On July 1, 1974, Larry married Debbie (Bronner) in Campo, CA. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Darla Jean (Scott) Wilson of Pine, MO, Christopher Eugene Portwood, also of Pine, and James Allen (Echo) Portwood of Poplar Bluff, MO; sisters, Beverly Siegler of Doniphan and Pam Ehrenberg of Blue Springs, MO; his brothers, Tony (Brenda) Portwood and Dennis Portwood, all of Doniphan; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

Larry was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Eugene Portwood, and a brother, Scott Portwood.

 

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral services to follow at noon. Burial will be in the Bennett Cemetery.
