Obituary of Larry L. Miller
Larry L. Miller, 79, departed this life Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his lake home in Deer River, MN with family members by his side. He was born on October 21, 1943, in Doniphan, MO, to the late Leonidas “Dock” and Jessie (Drane) Miller.
Larry had a kind and giving heart. He found joy in doing for and giving to others. He loved his family dearly and was proud of their accomplishments. He cherished the moments they were able to join him at the lake to go deer hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, and watching the splendor of the wildlife. Raised in Doniphan, Larry enjoyed his trips back to the region to visit friends and relatives as well as the scenery of the Ozarks. He took great pride in his career as a Lieutenant for the Village of Arlington Heights Fire Department in Illinois. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling often visiting Arizona to escape the cold winter months of the north. Larry also owned and operated Miller Carpentry and Tile with his son, David. He was a handy man who had a bold confidence and a fierce determination to build, remodel, and repair. He took great pleasure in maintaining a beautiful flower garden and enjoyed cooking, especially pies and peanut brittle. His fondness for reading made him well versed in all genres. Larry had served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he earned the rank of Corporal. He made many dear friends with those who served with him and maintained those friendships throughout the years.
Surviving are his sons, Dave (Renee) Miller of Crystal Lake, IL and Steve Miller of Carmel, IN; a brother Jerry Miller of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Megan (Kevin) Keiter, Leigh Ann Miller, Jake Miller, and Max Miller; and a great-grandson, Carson James Keiter with a granddaughter on the way.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly forty years, Kathleen, and a brother, Floyd Miller.
