Obituary of Dorothy Mae Whittom

Dorothy Mae Whittom, 94, formerly of Doniphan, Missouri, died August 21, 2023,                           at Cedargate Healthcare.

Mrs. Whittom, daughter of Orval and Evelyn (Hughes) Woolard, was born May 3, 1929, in Naylor, Missouri.  She worked for Vitronics of Doniphan, Missouri, for many years before going to work with her husband at Whittom’s Big Star Market. 

Dorothy experienced the grace of Jesus as a young adult.  Her compassion and hospitality were evident in the way she lived life through good times and bad.  She truly loved the Lord.

She was a member of First Church of God in Doniphan, having served as an officer of Women of the Church of God, Sunday school teacher, VBS helper, and daycare volunteer.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Mrs. Whittom enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, embroidery, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren as they grew up.

On May 12, 1947, she was married to Noah Whittom in Piggott, Arkansas.  He preceded her in death on February 25, 2009.  Also preceding her in death were her father, mother, and one brother, Carter Woolard.

She is survived by two sons, Charles (Linda) Whittom and Ronald (Elaine) Whittom, one brother, Lonnie (Louise) Woolard; four grandchildren, Matt (Alicia) Whittom, Erin (Jason) Rowland, Adam (Stacey) Whittom, Carol (Michael) Wyatt; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 26, 2023, also in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will be held in the Naylor Masonic Cemetery open to family members.
