Donald Gene Young, Sr., 77-year-old resident of Fairdealing, MO, departed this life Wednesday, August 16, 2023. He was born on October 6, 1945, in Delaplaine, AR, to the late Melvin Alvin and Ruth (Maynard) Young.

Don lived for his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to church, attending Victory Christian, and listening to gospel music. Don thrived on the excitement of rodeos and drag racing. In 1971, he had a car named Sneaky Snake that was only 1/10 of a second off the National Record. Along with his many and varied interests, Don had worked in a variety of roles including a backhoe and gravel service, an auto mechanic shop, and being a gun dealer at his shop, Don Guns.

 On June 25, 1966, Don married Pat Parks. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2020. Later he married Betsy Swingle, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Stacy (Toby) Taylor of Oxly, MO, Donny (Jamie) Young of Doniphan, and Jill (Brian) Wright of Harviell; stepchildren, Glenn (Buffy) DuVall of St. Louis, Joshua DuVall of Jonesboro, AR, and Rachel (Josh) Coronado of Fort Drum, NY; a sister, Glenda (Mike) Havens of Byron, IL; and brothers, Clarence (Linda) Young of Harviell, Cloyce Young of Gatewood, and Herbert Young of Elizabeth, IL; along with 12 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

Don was preceded in death by sisters, Geneva Hill and Juanita Young, and brothers, Earl, Ray, Paul, and Gerald Young.

Visitation will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 18, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Pastors Curtis Crowley and Dillon Harper will be officiating, and burial will be in Logan Creek Cemetery.
