Obituary of Jim Rex Speck

Jim Rex Speck, 74-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life, Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was born August 16, 1948, in Eagle Lake, TX, to John Allen and Evelyn Mae (Scott) Speck.

 

Jim had a variety of interests and skills that he used as a fabricator, rancher, and heavy equipment operator. Those led to his love of truck pulls and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. His inquisitive nature kept him questioning and figuring out how to make things work better. Jim enjoyed farm life which included gardening. He liked the outdoors and nature and would spend time hunting and fishing. Jim was also talented musically and could play the guitar. He loved his family, and a highlight was watching his grandchildren play sports. Jim had served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was of the Seventh Day Baptist faith.

 

On February 17, 1968, Jim married Betty Jean Kutach in Columbus, TX. They had marked 55 years of married life together. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Glen Eric (Kristian) Speck of Springfield, MO, Carrie Renee Semlinger of Doniphan, and Jim Allen Speck of Sikeston, MO, and grandchildren, Ross Stout, Caleb Speck, Shelby Speck, Christian Semlinger, Sydni Speck, Rylan Speck, Cameron Speck, and Kasidy Speck.

 

Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, his sisters, Glenda Siewert and Marcella Maretz, and brother, Ricky Speck.

 

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Funeral services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Brother Ron Elston will be officiating, and burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
