Obituary of Marjorie Ellen Smith

Marjorie Ellen (Stone) Smith, 90, of Springfield, MO and former resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, November 16, 2022. She was born May 9, 1932, in Bay AR, to the late Harold William and Gladys (Isbell) Stone.

Marjorie had been an elementary school teacher. She was a long-time member of the Doniphan United Methodist Church before her move to the Springfield area. Marjorie enjoyed RV traveling and fishing.

On May 26, 1951, Marjorie was married to Norman Smith in Walnut Ridge, AR. Norman and Marjorie had a double wedding with Lawrence and Martha (McDonald) Fagan who were close relatives and wanted to share in each other’s special day in such a momentous way. Norman preceded Marjorie in death on April 5, 2012. She was also preceded by a sister, Evalyn Lee (Stone) Roberts and a brother, Bill Stone.

Surviving are her daughters, Ellen Sue (Michael) Griffith of Springfield and Normalee (John) Smith Baker; a sister, Fleta Isabell (Stone) Gacki; grandchildren, Sam (Margo) Griffith of Springfield, Katie (Daniel) Howie of Hattiesburg, MS, Joe (Cory) Baker of Manchester, MO, and Jacob (Raschell) Baker of Kansas City, MO; her great-grandchildren, Cy Griffith and Elle Griffith of Springfield, MO, Rowan and Arthur Howie of Hattiesburg, and Emma Baker of Manchester.

Marjorie’s family would like to thank the staff of Cedarhurst Memory Care for their care and compassion they extended to their mother during the last 10 years of her long and blessed life. They became her family. They also appreciate Seasons Hospice for the help and comfort they gave the family during her final days.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 19, 2022, beginning at 1:00 with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Pastor Kent Wilfong will be officiating.
