Virgil Ray Ellis, Sr., 70-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Sunday, March 27, 2022. He was born May 21, 1951 in Ripley County to Homer and Catherine (Farris) Ellis.

Virgil worked for and retired from Moog Industries in St. Louis. After retirement, and moving to Doniphan, Virgil also operated a road grader, grading the roads for Ripley County, until he decided to once again retire. He enjoyed being outdoors working in his yard, mowing grass and gardening. He liked to find items to buy and sell. He was light-hearted and would bring a smile to others with the jokes he loved to tell. Virgil would relax playing a game of Pac Man. His favorite of all was time spent with family.

In 1990, Virgil married Linda Garner. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2019. He was also preceded by a sister, Hazel Thomas, and brothers, George, Ed, Dave, Charlie, and Ron Ellis.

Surviving is his son, Virgil (Marcy) Ellis, Jr. of Hartford, IL; three stepsons, Steven Pullen of Doniphan, Eddie Murphey of St. Louis, MO, and Shawn (Jeanetta) Murphey of Fenton, MO; sisters, Vivian Nelson Ehlers of Percy, IL, Juanita Fitzgerald, Mildred Farrow, and Brenda Pruitt all of Doniphan; and grandchildren, Cody Ellis and Nicolas Ellis, Jordan and Amber Murphey, and Shawn and Dawson Murphey.

Visitation will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, March 31, 2022 beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Sanky Hall Cemetery.
