William Stephen Thayer
January 15, 1954 to February 8, 2021
So heap on the wood and kindle the fire. Cook the meat well, mixing in the spices; and let the bones be charred. Ezekiel 24:10
Steve Thayer loved to feed family, friends, and strangers alike. He wasn’t just a loaves and fishes kind of guy, Steve enjoyed and was an extraordinary wild game and bbq chef, winning many awards for his skills. He passed this love of smoking meats to his sons, Charles Grady, of Columbia Missouri, and Vincent Edward, of Yosemite National Park, California.
Born in Tampa (Temple Terrace), Florida to Gilbert Elmer Thayer and Sarah Frances Elsberry Thayer, Steve loved fishing in the ocean, with the sun on his back. Later he would enjoy the same warmth of the sun as he plowed the Fairdealing, Missouri fields where he made a home with his wife, Lisa Jane Braschler.
Steve had many adventures as an elevator technician with Otis Elevator International. He traveled the world and was always up for new experiences, but his deep southern roots always called him home. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or traveling on his Harley, Steve was sure to find an opportunity to bring a smile to everyone he met.
Steve was assured of a heavenly home and often spoke with his older brother, James Gilbert Thayer about theological ideals. He loved his family at Doniphan Church of Christ in Doniphan, Missouri. Helping after the 2017 flood with the Relief Team brought him happiness.
Steve was proceeded in death by a brother, David Clarence Thayer, who will be running to greet Steve, with open arms and a big grin when they meet again in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please feed a hungry person, take a kid fishing, adopt a shelter pet, or make a donation to Missouri Stream Team, Kat.Lackman@mo.mdc.gov.
