Obituary of Nellie Jane McGowen

Nellie Jane McGowen, 92, of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born July 13, 1928 in Shawnee, OK to the late William Asa and Lona Evelyn (Terrell) Reeves.
Nellie had worked and retired from Sears & Roebuck Department Store. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers. Animals, too, were dear to her heart, and she would rescue strays. Mrs. McGowen was of the Baptist faith and had attended Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.
On December 7, 1945, Nellie married Frank Heflin in Weatherford, TX. He preceded her in death in May, 1982.
On June 1, 1985, Nellie married Charles McGowen in Jackson, MS. He preceded her in death in April of 2001.
Surviving are her daughter, Donna (Mike) McMorris of Doniphan; her grandson, Brad (Sonja) Knowlton of Doniphan; and her stepchildren, Billy Heflin of TX and Myrna Linden of LA. Also surviving are five step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McGowen was preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Morgan and Jessie Newman; her brother, Bill Reeves; and one grandson, Eric Knowlton.
A graveside service will be Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the ASPCA or the Humane Society.
