Obituary of Marvine Joplin

Marvine Joplin, age 94, departed this life on July 26, 2020. Mrs. Joplin was born in Doniphan on April 5, 1926 to the late Ethel (Smithson) and Marvin Guilliams. Her father, Marvin Guilliams, was a teacher, and she attended her first two years in the rural schools where he taught. She entered third grade at the Doniphan School and graduated from Doniphan High School with the class of 1943. Mrs. Joplin was employed as a cashier by Sho-Me Power Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1983 when the Doniphan office closed. She was the remaining charter member of the Doniphan Church of Christ. She dearly loved her family, church family, and friends; and enjoyed quilts, gardening, and flowers. On November 25, 1945, she married Glenn Joplin in Pocahontas, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2006. Survivors are one daughter, Glenda Smith of Fenton, Missouri; one son, Lyndal Joplin, and wife, Kathy, of Poplar Bluff; four granddaughters, Heather Hamby and husband, Craig, of Fenton; Erika Sevic and husband, Drew, of Ballwin; Alison Gomes and husband, Anthony of Bothell, Washington; and Lesley Joplin of Glen Carbon, Illinois; one step-grandson, Jonathan Lewis of Springfield, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Alyssa and Connor Hamby of Fenton; Karoline and Wyatt Sevic of Ballwin; Bryn and Blair Gomes of Bothell, Washington; and Zara Joplin of Glen Carbon, Illinois. Others surviving are one sister, Maxine Harper of Bloomfield; one brother, Jerry Guilliams, and wife, Pat, of Perryville; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; also sisters-in-law, Charlene Guilliams of Pearland, Texas; Ruth Guilliams of Jackson, Missouri; and Marveen Joplin of West Plains, Missouri; and one brother-in-law, Chester Joplin of Batesville, AR. Preceding Mrs. Joplin in death, besides her parents and husband, were brothers, Edward Guilliams, Barney Guilliams, Walter Guilliams, Donnie Guilliams, Lonnie Guilliams, and sisters-in-law, Judy Guilliams, Joyce Guilliams, and Valerie Guilliams, and son-in-law Shelton (Butch) Smith. A private graveside service will be held with Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will be at the Doniphan City Cemetery with Edwards Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
