Virginia Kay Freeman, 59, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at her residence. Mrs. Freeman was born August 4, 1952, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, being the oldest of five children born to Orbra and Ramona (Green) Griffin. She taught at the Doniphan Elementary School in Doniphan until illness required her to retire. She loved being actively involved in church activities, teaching Ladies' Class, writing poetry and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Freeman was also an ardent supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and often shared stories of support and encouragement to others who had cancer. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers' Association and the Doniphan Church of Christ. On May 16, 1969, she was married to Ray Freeman at the Wilson Church of Christ. He survives. Also surviving are two sons; Mark Lane Freeman (and Brandi) of Ellington, Missouri, and Bryan Ray Freeman (and Valerie) of Doniphan, Missouri; one daughter, Kelly Beth Martin of Doniphan, Missouri; six grandchildren, Reigh Ann Nicole Freeman, Harli Alanah Martin, James Lucas Martin, Landy Nicole Martin, Maci Rhea Freeman and Kali Lane Freeman; her mother, Ramona Griffin of Doniphan; two sisters, Kathy Jane Joplin (and Lyndal) of Doniphan, Missouri, and Joyce Sue Gething (and Grant) of Pampa, Texas; and one brother, Ronald Dwight Griffin (and Rachel) of Doniphan, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her father, Orbra Griffin and one sister, Sharolyn Fay Griffin. Visitation will begin Friday morning, November 4, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Doniphan Church of Christ. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church with Brother Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Ponder Cemetery.
